Phénomène géoéconomique puissant, la métropolisation transforme également les conditions et les modes de la gouvernance aux différentes échelles, notamment locales : concurrence interurbaine pour l’attraction des personnes et des activités, hybridation des modes d’intervention public-privé, montée en puissance des revendications d’une société civile de mieux en mieux organisée. Les lieux de nature cultivée dans la ville sont traversés par ces mutations de la gouvernance. L’article vise ainsi à montrer que le caractère multifonctionnel de ces lieux de nature (bien écologique, ressource alimentaire, creuset d’interactions sociales et d’attachement individuel) en fait des « espaces enjeux » pour les acteurs de l’aménagement urbain. En effet, les objectifs des institutions urbaines et la manifestation des demandes habitantes y entrent en tension, car ils ne relèvent pas des mêmes points de vue sur les espaces vécus et pratiqués. À partir de l’exemple de l’agglomération de Rennes, dans l’ouest de la France, on peut ainsi questionner la capacité des institutions urbaines à assurer une démocratie locale à partir de la participation habitante, et à intégrer véritablement toutes les formes d’activités productives dans une même vision métropolitaine.
