En Bolivie, l’avortement, considéré comme un délit contre la vie et l’intégrité corporelle, est aujourd’hui encore un thème au centre des revendications des groupes féministes et féminins, et au coeur des discussions politiques et sociales actuelles. Le thème s’est certes relativement démocratisé et de plus amples actions politiques et médicales appréhendent le phénomène. Cependant, l’avortement clandestin reste un problème irrésolu dans le pays et continue d’être un grave problème de santé publique, qui suscite de nombreux débats souvent controversés auxquels participent le Collège médical, l’Église catholique, les autorités de l’État et la société civile organisée.
