Abstract
Cet article aborde la question de la démocratie à partir de deux de ses points faibles, que nous considérons fortement reliés, et faisant partie des ambitions premières du projet démocratique : l’égalité politique et la réduction des inégalités sociales. Nous proposerons une vision alternative, celle de la démocratie participative dont de multiples expériences concrètes sont en émergence dans les villes un peu partout dans le monde. Nous montrerons comment cette démocratie peut réduire les problèmes d’inégalités politiques et sociales. Pour illustrer notre propos, nous utiliserons le cas du budget participatif (BP) de Porto Alegre au Brésil.
