Dentro del conjunto de los poemas amorosos de Quevedo publicados en su Parnaso español hay tres sonetos dedicados a elogiar la belleza de una dama bizca, una tuerta y una ciega. Estos textos se enmarcan en la tradición de los elogios paradójicos y la estética barroca, y guardan deudas con la literatura de academias y con la lírica italiana del siglo XVII, donde se hallan muchas poesías que alaban a mujeres con defectos físicos. En estos versos se mide la habilidad retórica del poeta y su capacidad de transformar lo feo en hermoso.
