Abstract
The management of spinal cord injuries remains an important clinical problem hampered by a lack of detailed pathophysiological knowledge. We present evidence to support the hypothesis that spinal cord injuries may be worsened by high spinal cord parenchymal pressures not unlike those encountered in compartment syndromes in injured extremities. Instrumentation for the study of spinal cord parenchymal pressures is described and preliminary results on its application to studying this problem are presented.
