Abstract
Dans l’est de l’Amérique du Nord, l’Holocène supérieur (depuis 3 500 ans BP) se distingue par une hausse marquée du niveau des lacs et par la formation de nombreuses tourbières. Plusieurs chercheurs attribuent ces phénomènes à une augmentation des précipitations hivernales : la fonte massive d’un gros volume de neige au printemps favoriserait la recharge des nappes phréatiques et la remontée des plans d’eau. L’étude des petits cônes alluviaux du Sud du Québec semble confirmer cette hypothèse. Les datations 14C obtenues pour quatre petits cônes alluviaux du Bas-Saint-Laurent et de la Gaspésie indiquent qu’ils se sont mis en place durant l’Holocène supérieur à la faveur d’une recrudescence des écoulements en sous-bois, qui semblent s’accentuer depuis 3 500 ans.
