Abstract
L’analyse d’une phobie chez un petit garçon de cinq ans — Le Petit Hans — l’un des textes fondateurs de la théorie psychanalytique, a été longtemps acceptée par tous les psychanalystes comme la confirmation de l’existence chez l’enfant du complexe d’Oedipe. Ce n’est que récemment que certains psychanalystes ont osé faire une relecture du matériel imaginaire de Hans. John Bowlby en particulier a suggéré que les menaces d’abandon proférées par sa mère étaient à l’origine de sa phobie des chevaux et d’autres après lui ont pu confirmer cette hypothèse à la lumière de matériaux historiques récents. À partir de cette relecture, un débat plus profond est ainsi mis en lumière entre un programme tout instinctuel et le rôle de l’environnement dans le développement de l’enfant. Le mouvement vers le pré-oedipien en psychanalyse de l’enfant et le rôle des interactions triadiques précoces dans le développement de l’Oedipe sont soulignés. Malgré ses limites, le Petit Hans demeure sans doute une lecture essentielle.
