Abstract
De la pureté du don. Contribution à un débat Partant d'une critique qu'Éric Schwimmer a formulée à l'endroit de J. T. Godbout et A. Caillé, nous nous efforçons de distinguer deux formes « pures » du don, conçu d'abord comme forme d'échange distincte du rapport marchand, puis comme geste gratuit et désintéressé. Cette distinction permet, dans un premier temps, d'apprécier la valeur méthodologique de l'opposition don-marché, tout en évitant de se prononcer sur les intentions des individus. Dans un second temps, nous retraçons brièvement l'apparition de cette opposition dans la société occidentale, et comment l'idée du don désintéressé a permis de penser le don comme forme générale d'échange.
