We have investigated whether abnormal group delay (AGD ) can be used to reduce signal latency in practical communication systems, considering the effects of the noise and the detection apparatus. A realistic active microwave NGD channel was compared to a conventional positive group delay microstrip transmission line. The detection system used in the study is the correlation detection system which has an optimal detection property. Analysis shows that an active microwave negative group delay (NGD) channel can indeed offer reduced signal latency as compared to a conventional subluminal group delay microstrip line. Such findings can be very important in the design of next generation microwave transmission lines and interconnects with reduced or eliminated signal latency.
