Abstract
À en croire la rumeur populaire, la société québécoise aurait à rougir de la faible performance de son système d'enseignement public. L'abandon scolaire au secondaire, qui se chiffre à près de 35% des membres d'une cohorte donnée, témoignerait, mieux que tout autre indice, de l'état de décomposition avancée qui gagne ce système. Sans partager pareilles vues, incorrectes selon lui, l'auteur nous invite plutôt à nous centrer sur le procès technocratique qui fait de l'obtention du diplôme le critère principal en matière d'examen de la situation scolaire actuelle, et à nous inquiéter de la stigmatisation sociale qui guette l'ensemble des non-diplômés du secondaire.
