Abstract
Cet article présente des observations sur les éleveurs de rennes de la péninsule Seward, au nord-ouest de l’Alaska. Des entrevues avec les éleveurs offrent des données et des perspectives sur l’élevage d’aujourd’hui dans le contexte du métier d’éleveur qui leur a été transmis. L’auteur découpe l’histoire de la gestion des troupeaux dans la péninsule pour offrir un cadre de référence aux propos des éleveurs. Ces entrevues aident à comprendre comment les éleveurs conçoivent la présente crise de l’élevage et nous offrent des pistes pour saisir comment l’élevage du renne peut continuer à être pour eux un moyen d’existence important à l’avenir.
