Abstract
In the early morning of June 21, 1943, George Pridham’s aircraft was shot down over the Netherlands. This was his 48th mission. Five members of his crew, who had been with him all through the war, were killed. The Navigator and he were lucky enough to survive, but during the action with the German fighter, Pridham lost one leg. In 1985, the citizens of Lopik, erected a monument honouring and thanking Canadian airmen for their efforts in liberating Holland during World War II. The monument contains one engine from Pridham’s downed aircraft as well as a stainless steel wing on which are engraved the names of the crew of his Halifax bomber. Pridham and his wife were guests of the Dutch people at the unveiling of the monument.
