Abstract

The vast majority of ac-dc single-stage converters are boost-type converters so that the properties and characteristics of other types of single-stage converters such as buck-boost are not well known. In this paper, the operation of simple single-stage boost-type and buck-boost type flyback converters are briefly reviewed and their properties and characteristics are examined and compared. A new single-stage buck-boost flyback converter is then proposed, its operation is explained, and its feasibility is confirmed with experimental results that were obtained from a prototype and that confirm the feasibility of the proposed converter
