Abstract
La thématique de la survie apparaît aujourd’hui comme capitale pour comprendre l’identité des peuples autochtones. Cet article tente d’appréhender sa signification à partir de plusieurs exemples relevant de plusieurs communautés algonquiennes. Trois exemples contemporains sont analysés. À travers le réapprentissage des pratiques traditionnelles de portage autour de la rivière, le premier cas montre en quoi, pour les Innus, la survie articule aujourd’hui la vie en réserve et le monde du bois. Le second cas examine la situation particulière d’un territoire ancestral cri en passe de disparaître noyé par un barrage. Le troisième cas nous projette en ville où, malgré la distance avec le monde traditionnel, la chasse et la survie restent une manière d’appréhender les événements. Dans cette perspective, comment peut-on comprendre la survie ? Au final, ces cas actuels illustrent parfaitement la diversité et l’importance du lien entre survie et territoire.
