En utilisant le modèle du triangle d’incompatibilité́ de Robert Mundel, cet article démontre que le stato-centrisme est le principal obstacle à la coopération fiscale. Pour faire cette démonstration, il discute d’abord du débat théorique qui oppose aujourd’hui les partisans de la coopération fiscale à ceux de la concurrence fiscale. Il analyse ensuite les formes que peut prendre le débat sur la coopération. La conclusion est que ce modèle ne résout rien et n’est, en fait, qu’une voie de garage, sauf pour ceux qui s’évertuent à penser qu’une concurrence fiscale moralisée peut résoudre le problème de l’harmonie des intérêts souverains dans un monde de liberté́ économique.
