Résumé Les récits de personnes qui ont reçu un diagnostic de psychose témoignent de l’irréductibilité de leur expérience par rapport aux savoirs bio-médicaux. À partir de deux recherches conduites l’une à Montréal (Canada) et l’autre à Chennai (Inde), l’auteur examine la manière dont ces personnes cherchent à apprivoiser l’expérience de la psychose et à reprendre pied dans l’espace du social et de la culture. Elle s’interroge sur la valeur protectrice et le sens de la position de « retrait positif » que font ressortir les entrevues. La notion de « travail de la culture » permet d’explorer la manière dont s’articulent d’une part l’espace social et culturel et de l’autre, des dynamiques psychiques singulières.
