Abstract
Le syndrome de l’intestin irritable (SII) au sens strict touche environ 5 % de la population françise, mais prés de 70 % des sujets adultes se plaignent de symptômes digestifs fréquents. Le SII est á l’origine de coûts directs modérés (72 á 1 590 € par an et par patient), probablement sous-estimés, mais qui finissent par représenter une dépense de santé importante compte tenu de la fréquence de la maladie et de son caracte`re chronique et récurrent. Les coûts indirects sont mal connus et sans doute plus importants compte tenu du retentissement du SII sur la qualité de vie.
