Abstract
Les sciences sociales se servent de découpages géographiques pour constituer les phénomènes sur lesquels porte leur savoir. Aussi, une théorie expliquant comment apparaissent ces cloisonnements du monde, en les considérant en tant qu'objets autonomes, pourrait apporter une connaissance cruciale, voire fondatrice, pour ces sciences. La théorie de la forme urbaine porte précisément sur de tels objets, mais peut-elle justifier épistémologiquement son droit à occuper cette place fondamentale? Cette question conduit à engager sur cette théorie une réflexion critique. Nous nous en rapportons à l'oeuvre de Kant afin de comprendre à quelles conditions a priori un lieu de l'oecoumène peut être déterminé par une position géographique. L'analyse des fondements transcendantaux des objets géographiques structuraux atteste une cohérence remarquable de la théorie de la forme urbaine avec l'architectonique des trois Critiques kantiennes et légitime ses prétentions scientifiques.
