Abstract
Cet essai vise à éclairer l'évolution de la reproduction familiale au sein de la paysannerie saguenayenne à l'aide d'un échantillon de quelque 300 donations entre vifs réparties sur la période 1870-1940. Une première partie situe la donation comme épisode dans le processus de transmission. Une deuxième en reconstitue les principales dispositions, faisant surtout ressortir les obligations qui étaient faites au donataire à l'endroit de ses frères et soeurs et, bien sûr, à l'endroit du donateur. Une dernière partie tente de déterminer dans quelle mesure la saturation progressive des terroirs saguenayens et le déploiement du capitalisme agraire ont entraîné des formes de plus en plus inégales de reproduction familiale.
