Abstract
Este artículo propone una revisión crítica de los elementos fundamentales que diferencian las nociones de ciencia e ideología y los factores que median en la relación existente entre ambas. Cuestionando las principales asunciones que el registro de las disciplinas académicas suele atribuir a la ciencia, se plantea una discusión sobre los criterios de demarcación del conocimiento científico, la cual pone en evidencia desde el punto de vista epistemológico la complejidad en la concepción de sus objetos, datos y métodos, y los límites y condicionamientos que ello impone. Por último, desde la perspectiva de la sociología del conocimiento, se examinan los vínculos y los influjos entre la producción de conocimiento y el contexto social, con particular atención a las relaciones de poder.
