Étude sociolinguistique de quelques caractéristiques des emprunts à l’anglais par des franco-américains du Massachusetts

Abstract
On entend souvent dire que le français parlé par les Franco-Américains comporte un grand nombre d’anglicismes. L’étude d’un corpus recueilli auprès de 25 locuteurs franco-américains du Massachusetts permet de quantifier plus précisément la situation. On constate que le nombre d’emprunts à l’anglais dans le discours français est comparable à plusieurs points de vue à celui d’autres communautés francophones minoritaires en Amérique du Nord, soit en général moins de 1 %. De plus, on observe un certain degré de variation sociologique, les hommes empruntant davantage que les femmes, tout comme les plus âgés par rapport aux plus jeunes. Quoique très limitée, cette analyse exploratoire indique que des perceptions et des jugements parfois subjectifs demandent une étude plus approfondie et à partir de données nombreuses et représentatives.
