Cet article se propose d’examiner comment l’émergence du pidgin-english induit des formes de contestations politiques et identitaires dans un pays riche de 270 langues locales. Bien qu’ignoré et combattu par les différentes administrations coloniales et postcoloniales, le pidgin a retrouvé ses lettres de noblesse au début des années 1990 et a été utilisé par divers groupes de pression politiques pour attirer l’attention des communautés camerounaises sur les difficultés d’alors. Aujourd’hui, l’usage de cette langue à part entière souffre toujours de discriminations officielles, mais son importance, tant au point de vue linguistique, qu’économique et sociopolitique est de plus en plus visible. Elle est enfin l’expression d’une identité contestataire majoritairement anglophone, que les politiciens camerounais doivent prendre en compte pour une meilleure gestion du territoire et des régions.
