Abstract
This article proposes an approach to clinical uncertainty surrounding ADD/ADHD. Using the idea of knowledge as a social phenomenon (Tomm, Hoyt, & Madigan, 1998), the author demonstrates a technique for clarifying uncertainty in a new therapist. This involves both detailing different positions in the debate surrounding ADD/ADHD and bringing the manifestations of this debate to light through a process to attain a both/and position. The author draws on concepts derived from Bowenian family therapy as well as narrative understandings of the position of the therapist.
