Nous avons synthetise la lazurite ayant une composition voisine de [Na 6 Ca 2 Al 6 Si 6 O 2 4 (S04,S) 2 ] en employant comme reactifs CaS + CaSO 4 dans des experiences hydrothermales sous pression et par reduction d'une feuille de Re dans des experiences avec piston-cylindre. Nous avons obtenu un echantillon bleu royal par recuit a 1200°C et 0.5 GPa; la trame de ce materiau est enrichie en Al (Al/Si entre 1.1 et 1.2), et il coexiste avec une petite quantite de sodalite incolore a faible teneur en soufre et contenant un excedant de Si. Le membre du groupe de la sodalite forme dans les experiences sans agent reducteur est la hauyne. Nous avons determine l'etat du soufre dans les produits de syntheses et dans la lazurite de l'Afghanistan et l'ile de Baffin, au Nunavut, par spectroscopie de l'absorption des rayons X pres du seuil K du soufre (XANES) et par spectroscopie photo-electronique des rayons X du S 2p (XPS). C'est le sulfate qui predomine parmi les especes de soufre dans tous les echantillons de lazurite, et nous decelons des quantites importantes mais subordonnees de sulfure en coordinence avec les cations Na + . De plus, il se trouve une fraction mineure de sulfite dans certains produits issus de l'appareil piston-cylindre, et de soufre natif dans les mineraux etudies. Les polysulfures ne depassent pas le seuil de detection. La lazurite naturelle differe de facon marquee de son equivalent synthetique en termes de composition chimique et des spectres XANES du seuil K du soufre et XPS du soufre 2p 3 / 2 , mais ces differences ne semblent pas exercer une grande influence sur le developpement de la couleur. Dans la hauyne synthetique, le soufre situe dans la cage structurale serait exclusivement sous forme de sulfate.
