Understanding the energy requirement for biomass size reduction would be verysignificant for the process of converting the biomass to bioenergy. A hammermill was used for sizereduction operations. One 12.7 mm size screen was applied to hammer mill for different particle sizereduction. Torque Sensor was connected to the engine shaft to measure the transfer of torque andengine rotational speed RPM. Oak wood chips was the tested material. New surface generated bythe cuts was evaluated. The research results will be used in practical applications, which aredesigning an ideal biomass size reduction apparatus for energy efficiency and better economics.
