Abstract
L’éclatement du champ religieux est une caractéristique de la plupart des États modernes occidentaux. Cette situation fait surgir de nouveaux questionnements sur la régulation du pluralisme religieux contemporain, surtout que la sécularisation des sociétés a renforcé paradoxalement les formes les plus engagées du religieux. La gestion de la liberté religieuse face aux groupes radicaux ou extrémistes est ainsi devenue centrale et met en évidence des enjeux qui sont loin d’être uniquement théoriques. Ils affectent autant le type de conception, plus ou moins libérale, de la liberté de religion adoptée, le traitement des minorités et le choix de valeurs communes à protéger. Notre propos s’appuie sur l’analyse de la régulation du pluralisme religieux au Canada et se fonde sur quelques exemples qui illustrent ces enjeux. Notre réflexion s’étend également à d’autres pays dans la mesure où les questions soulevées dépassent le cadre strictement canadien et apparaissent comme transnationales.
