Abstract
La dot pour la plupart des jeunes filles des années 1960 en France devait déjà être une notion désuète. Pourtant, trente-sept d’entre elles concoururent alors pour l’obtention d’une dot parce qu’elles étaient d’anciennes pupilles de l’État et pouvaient bénéficier à ce titre d’un legs fait par l’ingénieur Henri Giffard à la fin duxixesiècle. À cette occasion, l’administration a rassemblé à leur propos des informations positives sur leurs courtes vies, celles-ci sont d’ores et déjà devenues archives contemporaines. Nous disposons ainsi d’un corpus constitué de lettres de candidature rédigées par des représentants des administrations départementales. Nous proposons une première analyse de ce corpus permettant notamment de saisir un changement dans un laps de temps très court, de 1967 à 1970, faisant charnière : l’attitude des acteurs de l’Aide sociale évolue alors, passant d’un mode paternaliste ancien propre à l’Assistance publique à un mode gestionnaire et comptable raisonnant en termes de prestations.
