Abstract
Cet article discute la critique que Pierre Bourdieu, dans La Distinction , adresse au jugement esthétique kantien, et tout particulièrement au concept de désintéressement qui selon lui cache des intérêts de classe. Tout en reconnaissant avec Bourdieu que la Critique de la faculté de juger s’inscrit dans la lutte symbolique que l’intelligentsia bourgeoise allemande de la fin du xviii e siècle livre à l’aristocratie, l’article tente de démontrer que l’esthétique kantienne ne se réduit pas à cette logique de distinction sociale. Tout d’abord, il est faux de dire que Kant nie toute dimension sociale du goût puisque, à l’instar de tous les esthéticiens du xviii e siècle, il s’interroge sur la relativité du goût, question primordiale qui naît avec l’arrivée du grand public sur la scène de l’art. Ensuite, Kant, contrairement à ses contemporains qui défendent tous la croyance d’un goût naturel, est le seul esthéticien à ne pas escamoter la dimension plurielle du goût, ce qui va l’amener à défendre des positions théoriques qui l’inscrivent en faux contre ses intérêts de classe (ceux de la bourgeoisie allemande cultivée) et ne peuvent s’expliquer par la seule recherche d’une domination symbolique.
