A method for determination of source distributions of planar structures is described. The inverse problem is formulated as an identification problem. The method consists of measurements of weak electromagnetic signals in the source region and inverse processing of the acquired data in order to retrieve information about spatial distributions. The source region Green's function is used in order to develop the inverse problem equations. Integrals are solved for the voltage of the sensing antenna in terms of unknown parameters of the source distribution. A numerical inverse problem equation is obtained through transformation of an analytical solution in terms of unknown parameters into a matrix equation. This transformation leads to a positive definite matrix of the system of simultaneous equations. An application of the inverse problem to the quality testing of multilayer printed circuit boards is included.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">&gt;</ETX>
