Abstract
Pendant l’année écoulée de mai 2004 à mai 2005, Montréal a connu une activité créatrice d’une rare intensité dans le domaine de l’opéra contemporain : en plus de la création des opéras Elia (musique et livret de Silvio Palmieri) et L’archange (musique de Louis Dufort, livret d’Alexis Nouss), on a assisté à la reprise de Louis Riel d’Harry Somers, oeuvre majeure qui a marqué la musique canadienne de la seconde moitié du XX e siècle. Cet article présente un compte rendu de ces trois productions avec, en toile de fond, un plaidoyer pour la reprise et la réinterprétation des nouveaux opéras, au-delà de leur seule création.
