Abstract
L'auteur expose d'abord les résultats de l'étude du relief terrestre dans le monde en ce qui concerne la géomorphologie planétaire, structurale et climatique, la cartographie géomorphologique, la géomorphologie appliquée et la théorie de la géomorphologie, en considérant que la base de cette étude est, aujourd'hui encore, la théorie de W. M. Davis.Celle-ci doit être comprise dans un sens large, comme théorie de la pénéplaine; celle-ci se forme à la suite de la superposition et de la juxtaposition de plusieurs systèmes de « modélation » (système fluvial, littoral, semi-aride, aride, etc.); aussi, comme théorie de l'aplatissement progressif du relief terrestre, dans le temps et dans l'espace. La pénéplanation correspond dans l'ensemble à la phase de glyptogénèse ou à la phase d'évolution géostructurale de plateforme, de cratinisation de l’écorce terrestre. La classification des pénéplaines en trois catégories: fossiles, à jour et fragmentées (régénérées), est suivie d'exemples tirés de la géographie de la Roumanie (figure 2) et du monde (figure 3). Schématiquement : la pénéplaine = abrasioplaine (tallasoplaine) + panplaine (fluvioplaine) + pédiplaine, etc.
