Abstract
En su silva Execración contra el inventor de la artillería Quevedo recoge un tópico que tuvo gran fortuna a partir del Renacimiento: el ataque a las armas de fuego, culpables de haber acabado con la valentía de la antigua caballería. El modelo fundamental que inspiró a varios autores italianos y españoles fue el Orlando furioso de Ariosto. Quevedo también partió de este precedente, pero lo combinó con la imitación de Horacio y de otros escritores. En su adaptación del tópico, la silva aporta nuevos elementos estilísticos propios de la estética barroca, y pone mayor énfasis que Ariosto en su contenido censorio.
