Radial Basis Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin Method for Thick Beams

Abstract
*† An MLPG method that uses radial basis functions (RBF) in the study of thick beams governed by the Timoshenko beam theory is presented. The weak form of the governing differential equations is derived such that the locking phenomenon observed in the finite element method is avoided. A cubic RBF is chosen to approximate both the deflections and the independent shear rotations. The radial basis MLPG (RPG) method for thick beams successfully recovers Euler-Bernoulli solutions in the thin beam limit. The present RPG method is applied to several thick beam problems for which exact or accurate solutions are available. The method yields accurate results for all of the problems considered.
