Using the theory of potential flow, an equation has been developed to determine the discharge coefficient of a sluice gate (Cd). To assess the developed equation for Cd, 84 laboratory experiments were conducted. Comparison of Cd values determined from experiments and calculated from the proposed equation gave very good results. Comparisons between the results and those of other researchers were also carried out.
