Les termes «post-moderniste» et «post-moderne», volontiers confondus, ont rejoint la vulgate universitaire, la cohorte des adjectifs attendus, «branchés», passe-partout. Et si on prenait les termes au sérieux? Et si on s'efforçait de lire les clivages, les confusions et les contradictions dans l'usage immodéré de ces termes? Et si on préférait s'en remettre à ce que nous disent des textes particuliers plutôt que de faire glisser nos incertitudes sous le tapis commode de néologismes permettant d'attendre? On verrait alors que, faute de projet, les onomathurges de l'esthétique contemporaine ne font que dissimuler le vide et l'angoisse de notre culture sous la feuille de vigne de mots composés qu'il n'est peut-être pas, après tout, indispensable «d'expliquer aux enfants».
