Abstract
O presente estudo examina os efeitos de variáveis de natureza acadêmica, demográfica e econômica e como elas estão relacionadas com o desempenho dos estudantes dos cursos de contabilidade do Brasil. O procedimento metodológico utilizado nesta pesquisa foi o de desk research. A base examinada consistiu de uma população de 22.662 estudantes de graduação de Contabilidade que prestaram um exame de larga escala para avaliação do ensino superior brasileiro. As descobertas indicam que todas as variáveis incluídas no estudo, a exceção da condição racial, têm relação com o desempenho dos alunos, entretanto, as relações existentes demonstraram-se fracas. Testes de médias realizados indicam que todas as variáveis, a exceção da freqüência de utilização da biblioteca, revelam-se importantes para o desempenho dos alunos. As implicações desses efeitos e dessas influências sobre o desempenho são de grande importância para as Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES), bem como para professores de contabilidade.
