Abstract
L’auteur de Zig-Zag , son premier roman paru en 1929 chez Gallimard, avait, en raison de ses origines sociales, vocation à fonder, au début des années 1930, le groupe des écrivains prolétariens avec, entre autres, Henri Poulaille, Eugène Dabit ou Louis Guilloux, et à adopter des positions politiques proches du communisme. Toutefois, dans les mêmes années, il fut l’ami de certains poètes surréalistes, peu enclins à suivre la ligne et dont l’inspiration était parfois voisine de la sienne. À travers ses articles de presse ( Monde , Le Figaro ) et des archives inédites, c’est la complexité de Marc Bernard en matière d’esthétique littéraire que veut refléter cette étude depuis ses premiers essais jusqu’à la consécration du Goncourt.
