Abstract
From introduction: Asthma symptoms are triggered or exacerbated by a range \nof environmental factors, such as allergens, viruses, fungi, \nexercise, aspirin, pollutants, and occupational irritants and \nsensitizers. While traditionally considering an intrinsic disease, \nin more recent years asthma has been viewed by many \nas a genetically associated environmental lung disorder with a \nheterogeneous pathogenesis. With the exception of the severe \ncases, the diagnostic signature of asthma is the reversibility of \nairway obstruction by agents that relax airway smooth muscle \n(ASM), which attests to the importance of this tissue in the \npathobiology of the airflow obstruction.
