Abstract
At the meeting of the Academy in Tulsa, December 8th and 9th, 1939, the author described the unconformity at the base of the Barnsdall formation in Washington and Osage Counties under the title: Unconformity at the Base of the Birch Creek Limestone (1) . That was 13 years ago, and in the meantime he has, with the aid of several graduate students of the University of Oklahoma, mapped the same unconformity southward across Osage, Pawnee, Tulsa, Creek, and Okfuskee Counties to the North Canadian River. The Birch Creek limestone is irregularly but progressively more sandy southward and grades into the basal bed of the Okesa sandstone, in T. 22 N., R. 10 E., Osage County. It was found advisable, for cartographic purposes, to include the Birch Creek limestone and the Okesa sandstone in the lower part of a new unit named the Barnsdall formation (4). Hence the title of this paper.
