Abstract
La théorie de l'esprit est la capacité de se représenter les désirs, croyances et intentions des autres. Cette capacité est acquise chez l'enfant vers l'âge de sept ans. Toutefois, cette théorie est déficitaire chez les personnes autistes ayant un âge mental équivalent ou supérieur à sept ans. Cette difficulté semble s'expliquer par un délai développemental spécifique au niveau du mécanisme de la pensée (Baron-Cohen, 1989a). Ce délai serait associé chez les personnes autistes à leurs critères diagnostiques propres, soit à leurs difAcuités cognitives (Baron-Cohen 1989b), à leurs habiletés langagières déficitaires (Sparrevohn et Howie, 1995) et à leurs altérations des interactions sociales (Holroyd et Baron-Cohen, 1993). Cet article propose une recension des écrits sur la problématique de la théorie de l'esprit ainsi qu'une description de deux autres approches, soit celles des fonctions executives et de la cohérence centrale.
