Abstract
Resume Objectif : Cet article vise a presenter une evaluation de la conformite de la gestion des refrigerateurs dans un centre hospitalier quebecois ainsi qu’un plan d’action. Mise en contexte : Sante Canada a publie des lignes directrices sur le controle de la temperature des medicaments pendant leur entreposage et leur transport, a l’intention des fabricants, des distributeurs et des pharmaciens. A partir de cette politique en vigueur, nous avons etabli douze criteres de conformite et procede a une evaluation de la pratique par le biais d’une tournee de tous les refrigerateurs de l’etablissement pouvant contenir des medicaments. Conclusion : Il existe peu de donnees publiees sur l’etat de conformite de la chaine thermique en etablissement de sante. Cette evaluation illustre une demarche pratique de mise a jour et demontre la necessite de diffuser l’information et de former davantage le personnel clinique et celui des unites de soins sur tout ce qui concerne la conservation des medicaments au refrigerateur dans un centre hospitalier quebecois. Abstract Objective: This article aims to describe the conformity evaluation of refrigerators in a Quebec hospital and to develop an action plan. Context: Health Canada has published guidelines for the use of manufacturers, distributors and pharmacists with regard to the temperature control of drugs during storage and transport. Following these guidelines, we established twelve criteria for conformity and proceeded to examine current practice by evaluating all refrigerators in the hospital that contained drugs. Conclusion: Few data exist on conformity of the cold chain in health care establishments. This evaluation demonstrates a practical approach to updating current practice. It shows the necessity of communicating information and of properly training clinical and unit staff on all matters involved in storing drugs in refrigerators in Quebec hospitals.
