Le rapport de la Commission Bouchard-Taylor (Fonder l’avenir. Le temps de la conciliation) qui a été rendu public en mai 2008 est devenu un élément central des réflexions intellectuelles et politiques concernant les rapports interculturels au Québec et au Canada. Cet article se propose d’examiner de manière plus attentive une importante dimension du rapport, celle ayant trait au pluralisme intégrateur. Après avoir décrit le contexte de politisation identitaire qui a donné lieu à la création de la Commission, il s’agira d’examiner la centralité de cette notion dans l’architecture d’ensemble du rapport, tout comme de voir comment pluralisme et intégration s’articulent l’un à l’autre. Nous verrons que le pluralisme intégrateur est un modèle positif qui exige une participation active des individus et qu’il se fonde sur une mise en retrait de l’idée de tolérance, telle qu’elle était communément comprise. En conclusion, nous rappellerons que la parution de deux manifestes (hiver 2010) montre que le débat se poursuit.
