Les réseaux d’entreprises s’imposent comme une forme d’organisation incontournable du système productif contemporain. La théorie du capital social fournit une grille originale (Nahapiet et Ghoshal, 1998) pour comprendre leur développement. Nos objectifs sont d’analyser la construction du capital social pour identifier les facteurs du développement des réseaux d’entreprises. La recherche porte sur l’étude d’un réseau Français de trente PME, spécialisé dans la filière du travail des métaux. À l’heure où les pouvoirs publics s’interrogent sur les conditions de réussite des réseaux d’entreprises labellisés, nos résultats proposent un éclairage complémentaire sur leur construction et plus spécifiquement sur l’émergence et la mobilisation du capital social.
