Abstract
L’allaitement maternel est promu par les organismes de santé publique tant québécois qu’internationaux, qui le considèrent comme le meilleur mode d’alimentation pour l’enfant. Cependant, un peu plus d’un couple québécois sur quatre choisit une autre option d’alimentation. Cette étude vise à décrire et à comprendre l’expérience des pères dont l’enfant n’a pas été allaité ou a été sevré de façon précoce. Vingt-huit pères décrivent trois trajectoires de décision et les effets de l’alimentation artificielle sur leur rôle, la vie familiale et le soutien professionnel reçu. Les pères ressentent en effet une pression sociale d’alimenter l’enfant au sein, notamment de la part des professionnels de la santé.
