Abstract
La république incarne entre autres la liberté et la souveraineté du peuple, la vertu publique, la lutte contre la corruption du pouvoir et de l'argent, l'indépendance et l'instruction du citoyen. Les auteurs de cette anthologie proposent les meilleurs discours républicains qui ont façonné l'histoire québécoise de la Nouvelle-France à la Révolution tranquille. Certains textes seront appréciés pour leur audace et leur caractère polémique, d'autres pour leur grande valeur littéraire. Ces discours fournissent des clés précieuses pour réinterpréter notre histoire nationale, ses épreuves, ses ruptures comme ses constantes. Cette anthologie présente une autre façon de lire l'histoire du Québec, au-delà des lectures courantes : fédéralistes contre souverainistes, libéraux contre conservateurs. Les républicains québécois étant d'ardents défenseurs de la souveraineté du peuple, ce livre aidera à comprendre la genèse et l'évolution de la démocratie au Québec.
