Le présent texte vise à exposer, à l’aide d’analyses rétrospectives, les principales composantes du modèle mis en place au Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean (SLSJ) pour prévenir l’abandon scolaire. Amorcé en 1996, ce projet novateur repose sur le rapprochement de deux réalités : l’éducation et le territoire. Après avoir rappelé le contexte de départ et les idées fondatrices, les auteurs discutent d’abord des conditions d’émergence du Conseil régional de prévention de l’abandon scolaire (CRÉPAS), lesquelles ont jalonné un partenariat entre la société civile et l’État. Les pratiques s’inscrivent dans la logique de l’action communautaire et de la recherche-action, alors que le territoire sert d’ancrage à la mobilisation régionale et locale. Les auteurs font ensuite part des principaux indicateurs en matière de persévérance scolaire, de santé et de bien-être qui témoignent de changements survenus chez l’ensemble des jeunes de cette région.
