Abstract
Desde que se instalaron las primeras empresas maquiladoras de la Frontera Norte de Mxico, en el ao de 1965, el tema ha sido ampliamente estudiado desde distintos abordajes tericos y metodolgicos, mismos que han suscitado posiciones encontradas. En este marco de discusin que acenta diferencias acusadas en las empresas tra snacionales, condujo a Carrillo y Hualde (1998) a la construccin de una tipologa de tres generaciones sustentada en sus niveles de desarrollo tecnolgico principalmente y en los procesos de produccin cuya naturaleza exige determinada mano de obra, tecnologa y equipo. Advertimos que nuestra intencin de hacer hincapi en la nocin de "maquiladoras" no corresponde a un concepto unvoco, sino que entraa una vasta pluralidad de empresas inscritas en este rgimen.
