Abstract
Este artigo e um tributo a Jose Saramago. O texto apresenta algumas reflexoes acerca do papel da escolarizacao em lingua portuguesa para imigrantes brasileiros instalados na regiao do Quebec, Canada. A partir de pesquisa exploratoria – estudo de caso/ narrativa autobiografica – faz-se uma analise de aspectos relativos a politica de emigracao deste pais da America do Norte. Este trabalho foi executado durante o periodo em que sua autora atuou como professora visitante na Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres (UQTR) no ano de 2008 e durante os quatro primeiros meses de 2009, ja como professora associada. Os dados coletados indicam desvalorizacao da escolarizacao feita na lingua portuguesa e da cultura lusofona pela sociedade receptora. Tal situacao se traduz em segregacao no mercado de trabalho quebequense dos sujeitos desta pesquisa – selecionados como imigrantes qualificados justamente por serem escolarizados.
