Toutes les expositions universelles ont été l’occasion de mettre le monde à jour ; Expo 67 a joué son rôle donnant l’occasion au Québec de se valoriser et de se comparer. Le magazine Châtelaine s’est voulu complice de la vision nouvelle de soi et des autres, ce qui servait bien sa mission. Les six mois pendant lesquels plus de 50 millions de visiteurs ont déambulé à Expo 67 se sont avérés un moment favorable aux changements dans la vie quotidienne des Québécois et plus particulièrement des Québécoises. Nous proposons d’examiner de plus près Châtelaine durant cette période en nous attardant à l’année de l’exposition universelle et internationale de 1967, couramment nommée Expo 67. À cette époque, on assiste à un bouleversement des idées reçues, à l’intrusion de modes au quotidien et, par conséquent, à l’apparition de nouveaux genres de vie. La notion de modernité s’impose comme une nécessité qui s’inscrit dans un processus de mise à distance des habitus et des coutumes et par l’absorption de modèles internationaux. La modernité s’affiche comme libératrice du poids du temps, signifie le nouveau et donne préséance à l’individuel. Les magazines comme Châtelaine contribuent à l’éducation continue de leur lectorat. Durant la période de transition que sont les années 1960, les changements proposés s’inscrivent dans l’esprit de la Révolution tranquille, en quête de modernité et d’une ouverture explicite au monde.
