Abstract
Prenant pour point de départ un article de Jean-Wilfrid Garrett publié en 1950 dans la revue Polyphonie, article dans lequel l’auteur se désole de devoir constater le refus (ou l’incapacité) d’adaptation des compositeurs de musique contemporaine au média radiophonique, Réjean Beaucage se demande si ces derniers ne se préparent pas une nouvelle fois à rater le rendez-vous avec les nouvelles technologies, celles, cette fois-ci, qui intègrent l’image et le son. Examinant quelques oeuvres de compositeurs de musique contemporaine publiées ces dernières années sur DVD-vidéo ambiophonique (Tristan Murail, Fausto Romitelli, Steve Reich, etc.), il constate que la production est encore, de ce côté, très mince, et enjoint les compositeurs, comme le faisait Garrett il y a déjà plus d’un demi-siècle, à « ne pas se contenter d’illustrer conventionnellement d’arides théories mais d’en rechercher, parallèlement, l’application au monde vivant ».
